Sometimes you just need to make time to unwind with your favorite girls! In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be all too easy to let the demands of work, family, and other responsibilities take precedence, leaving little room for personal connections and relaxation. However, carving out dedicated time to spend with your closest friends is not just a luxury; it is a vital aspect of maintaining emotional well-being and fostering strong relationships. Whether it's a casual get-together at someone's home, a cozy coffee date at a local café, or a fun outing to a nearby park, these moments spent together provide an invaluable opportunity to catch up on each other's lives, share stories, and reminisce about fond memories.
One afternoon not long ago, my husband and I were watching TV and sharing updates about our workday. He suggested that I invite our daughter-in-law, Sydney on a girls' trip. I was thrilled with the idea. I promptly sent her a text to see if she would be interested in going away for a couple of nights, just the two of us! She was equally as excited. We selected a date two weeks in advance, allowing us ample time to choose an excellent destination and organize the trip around our work commitments and other family responsibilities.
Considering the Best Destination
Sydney and I gave careful thought to where we would like to go. We knew in advance that we would only be staying a couple of nights. Considering it was early January and bitter cold, we first considered two or three nights in Key West, Florida. This would work great because the flight from Louisville, KY to Key West is fairly brief, allowing us to arrive by 3 PM. Instead of renting a car, we had planned to take an Uber from Key West International Airport to the Southernmost Beach Resort. The resort has good reviews and is located on Duval Street. This location would give us easy walking access to all our desired destinations. For our chosen weekend, the average daily temperatures in Key West was in the 70s, which is perfect for sight seeing. I could picture us being all smiles as we strolled the streets to numerous shops, restaurants, and attractions, breathing in the salty air and enjoying life.

The Perfect Alternative Destination
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we decided that we could only stay one night for that specific weekend. With that being said, we canceled our flights and hotel reservations for Key West, saving that plan for a weekend when we have more time available. At this point, our plan was to be able to leave on Friday morning at 0830 and return home on Saturday evening. I proposed a perfect alternative plan that would fit our tight schedule and Sydney was immediately on board with the idea.
Gaylord Opryland Resort
When Friday morning finally rolled around, I got up, showered, loaded my overnight bag and was on my way to pick up Sydney! Our road trip took us to one of my all-time favorite cities, Nashville, Tennessee. It took us less than three hours to drive from our hometown in Kentucky to our destination in Nashville. Our new reservations were at the Gaylord Opryland Resort. I have stayed here many times in the past and have absolutely loved it. If you have never experienced a stay at this upscale resort, it is a must! When you arrive, spend the extra money and get the valet parking. You will not regret it. Sydney and I stayed in an Interior Atrium View room with two queen beds and a balcony. Again, the Interior Atrium View room is one of my personal preferences because I love sitting on the balcony, listening to the sounds of waterfalls and people watching. You will often hear live acoustic music coming from one of the restaurants on the main floor.
Exploring the Property
Upon arrival, Sydney and I went directly to our room to settle in, thanks to checking in beforehand with the Marriott BonVoy app. The app provided us with our room number and an electronic key that operates via Bluetooth. At first sight, one will see just how beautiful this resort actually is. The resort's indoor garden atrium is enormous, spanning 9 acres and filled with stunning tropical trees, flowers, waterfalls, and an indoor river. Guests can even buy tickets on-site for a boat ride along the indoor river. This family-friendly resort includes "Soundwaves," an indoor water park attraction. Opryland Resort also hosts several restaurants, some of which require reservations. Sydney and I had booked a 50-minute calming massage at the Relache Spa. We were able to arrive a couple hours early and enjoy some time in the sauna and steam room prior to our massage. We highly recommend visiting this spa, if time allows. Once we got settled in our room, we stayed on the resort property until we checked out the next day. There were plenty of activities to keep us occupied, and the time seemed to fly by! For those of you who are wanting to stay longer and experience the Nashville party scene, it is only a short Uber ride from this resort to Broadway! Sydney and I had the best time and we cannot wait until our next adventure!
Create Cherished Memories
Having some laughs, whether over a shared joke or a funny story, can significantly lighten the mood and create lasting bonds. Laughter has a unique way of easing stress and lifting spirits, making it an essential element of these gatherings. In addition to enjoying each other's company, taking the time to relax and engage in heartfelt conversations can deepen your connections, allowing you to support one another through life's ups and downs. Moreover, these moments of unwinding can serve as a much-needed escape from daily pressures, offering a chance to recharge and reflect. So, the next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or in need of a break, remember the importance of nurturing those friendships. Set aside some time, gather your favorite girls, and indulge in the joy of shared experiences. You will not only create cherished memories but also reinforce the bonds that make life richer and more fulfilling.
